Hi There,
During the past month the Lui's team has been very busy creating and promoting the upcoming SS15 collection! It is gonna be launched in September so keep checking our website for news about it!
I know it's been some time since our last post, so I am gonna fill you in with everything that happened since then.
First of all, the team is very pleased to announce our new collaboration with Girl Meets Dress, a company where you can rent dresses for 2 to 5 nights! An amazing way to wear new and established designers without spending all your salary on one item!
You can have a look at our dresses here http://hire.girlmeetsdress.com/collections/vendors?q=LUIs.
Another amazing news is that our team of graphic designers has completed the editing of the behind the scenes videos from the photoshoots of both the Lookbook and Campaing!
You can have a look at them here, and also get a sneak peek at our SS15 RTW and Evening wear collection:

Met Gala 2014 Best Dressed
It is the hottest ticket in the world of fashion, for a mind-numbing $25,000 the fashion's elite and A-listers gather under one roof and do whatever it is rich people do when they unite. This year to pay homage to couturier Charles James, the theme was 'White Tie and Decorations', and for a theme that evokes opulence, it felt rather underwhelming. Now that night is over, and since we're still in the best-dressed judging spirit from our last post, here are the few favourite looks from last night's Met Gala red carpet:
Victoria Beckham |
Beyonce |
Marion Cotillard |
Emma Stone |
Arizona Muse...safe to say she stole the red carpet crown last night.

Elements of style
Column | What constitutes a 'good style'?
Rihanna at the iHeartRadio Music Awards |
Have you ever wondered what you would wear
on the red carpet if you were famous? I imagine it’s akin to weddings – where you
already have a few dresses, make-up, and hairstyles safely tucked away in your
imagination. I am unashamedly guilty of both accusations. And like the wedding
day, on the red carpet all eyes are on you and it is your moment. This is where
the ‘Dress to Impress’ dress code applies or else Joan Collins will verbally roast
you for dinner.
It is now universally accepted that Lupita
Nyong’o rained on everyone’s parade since the premiere of 12 Years A Slave in 2013, becoming an instant style favourite and
the one to watch. So much so that she possessed enough grace, and charisma to
steal my attention from Cate Blanchett, her majesty, the Queen of Red Carpet.
Cate Blanchett hasn’t had a ‘Worst Dressed’
moment. There just isn’t enough evidence. Yes she may have toned it down here
and there (see the 2014 SAG Awards ensemble), but that’s not enough to taint
her credibility, because well, her history is impeccable and makes up for that.
Similar to a child who is always on his/her best behaviour and maybe just one
day they step out of line – you wouldn’t give a severe punishment right? A ‘that isn’t like them’ will probably
cross your mind, and a warning would suffice.
So
when Rihanna turned up to the iHeartRadio
Music Awards last week in a Givenchy Fall 2008 Couture lace gown, green
lipstick and a ‘90’s hairdo, it sparked the typical ‘she has no style’ vs.
‘only Rihanna can pull this off’ debate that occurs whenever she changes
outfits. Shocker. It wasn't that long ago either when she turned up to the MTV Movie Awards in safe for the bedroom flirtatious night gown and bodysuit. And she's been long known to constantly reinvent her image, with the word safe no longer in her vocabulary you
either love it or hate it and you’d be hard pressed to sum it up in one word.
Is experimenting with your looks, like
Rihanna a telltale sign of having ‘no style’ because you can’t be pigeon holed
down to one aesthetic? And if like Cate Blanchett you have blunder-free style
moments, does that define a ‘good style’? Or does style come with age? Or is it
all a matter of perspective – but what shapes that perspective?
Perhaps like me, you may now be pondering
on the conundrums of style, but I leave with you stylish moments of the past
week:

Spring/Summer 2014 trend
SS14 is bringing sexy back, but this time, it’s just
not as you know it, Jane Chanakira explores.
Legs, cleavage,
and a voluptuous bum are typically words synonymous with sexiness. Sexy is the above picture of Cindy Crawford photographed by Herb Ritt’s. Sexy is the beach babe
soaking up the sun, her skin glistening and glowing as radiated by the summer
sun, a two-piece bikini leaving little to the imagination.
For this summer designer’s
opted for a sensual and subtle way of exposing the skin by displacing attention
on the body. And that’s just what makes this trend approachable and friendlier
than it seems: peekaboo mesh, laser cuts, and sheer overlays exude an air of
mystery and effortless charm; imagine hidden tattoos peering from underneath a crop top. Or the sultry seduction of barely-there mid-riffs, and backless waistcoasts elicit the
romantic gesture of a loved one carefully placing his hand on the small of your
back. There are slits in skirts and dresses that show as you walk or finished
with sheer overlays, décolletages on show and tops stopping just above the
cleavage. It’s a game of confidence, and control by teasing, flirting with, and
interrupting the onlooker’s eyes.
Herb Ritt's |
It’s an undeniably
empowering trend that allows the wearer to celebrate more of their body than
allowed by the confines of a bodycon pencil skirt or a low-cut top. Greater is
the choice to expose an open back, shoulders, or a mid-riff in tasteful ways. The
redefinition of sexy is enticing and
as seductive as Herb Ritt’s iconic photo of the five supermodels huddled and
clinging onto each other; their nudity modest, yet provocative.
Perhaps the trend
was fueled by a hyper-sexually charged year in pop music, with debates about
what, and when is a woman allowed to explore her sexuality- Lui’s, Chanel,
Proenza Schouler and others among the pack have answered the latter with their
collections: there’s more ways than one.
To style the trend, pair and contrast
leg-lengthening trousers or midi or maxi skirts with the Daisy two-toned crop
top from our collection. For the Poppy off the shoulder dress, adorn your bare neckline with a
statement or dainty necklace, or opt for the Cadia crop top or Veronica dress with
sheer touches that act as veils and make the looks transition easily from day
to evening wear. Ultimately, for an evening look, the caped and cut-out
waist Felicia gown makes quite a statement; an interplay of sexy and elegant.
